The Park

Jim Corbett National Park, one of the most visited national parks in North India, was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park to protect the endangered Bengal tiger.

 

It is located in Nainital district of Uttarakhand and was named after Jim Corbett who played a key role in its establishment. Its proximity to the National Capital and variety in flora and fauna attracts many wildlife lovers from all over India as well as overseas.

 

The park is the oldest and most prestigious National Park in India. It is also being honored as the place where Project Tiger was first launched in 1973.

Tourist Zones

Jim Corbett National Park has been divided into five core zones and one buffer zone in order to promote tourism in the region. These are the marked areas of the park where visitors can experience the adventurous wildlife safaris and can enjoy the intriguing behavior of the animals with bare eyes in the vicinity.

These zones are :

  • Dhikala Zone

  • Dhela Zone

  • Jhirna Safari Zone

  • Durga Devi Zone

  • Bijrani Safari Zone

  • Sitabani Zone (Buffer Zone)

Jeep Safari is the safest mode of enjoying wildlife tour inside the national park where 6 passengers are allowed along with a naturalist and an experienced driver.

For enjoying jeep safaris in Corbett, one needs to get prior reservations depending on availability status and it is advisable to book your Jeep safaris well in advance to avoid any chance of unavailability.

Canter Safaris

Canter Safari in Corbett is the best option for those who wish to sight the wildlife of the area and reside outside the Dhikala Zone. Canter is a 16 seater open air bus that drives from Ramnagar to Dhikala and then back to Ramnagar. Prior booking is required for availing canter safari in the park.

Elephant Safaris

Elephant safari in Corbett provides a closer view of wildlife to the tourists. It covers all those corners that can’t be accessed via jeep safari. For elephant safari you don’t need to make any prior bookings, it can be done on first come first serve basis.
