City Palace (2.4 kilometers)
One of the most magnificent marvels of Jaipur is the City Palace complex - the residence of the former ruling family – which depicts rare and finest blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture.
Jantar Mantar – the observatory (2.4 kilometers)
Just outside the main city palace complex is the Jantar Mantar – the observatory of Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur.
Hawa Mahal – palace of the winds (2.8 kilometers)
The Hawa Mahal is all facade – an elaborate palace exterior with nine hundred and fifty three windows and niches.
Gaitore (3 kilometers)
Gaitore, located in the foothills of Nahargarh, was the cremation ground of the maharajas where nine out of ten rulers of Jaipur were cremated. White marble cenotaphs were constructed on the sites of the cremations.
Albert Hall museum (3 kilometers)
The museum has fine collection of sculptures, miniature paintings and art objects along with other exhibits. It’s greatest treasure is the large 16th century garden carpet woven in central Persia.
Nahargarh Fort (4 kilometers)
Located at the end of the Amber – Jaigarh spur, this small fort stands guard over Jaipur on a sheer rock face nearly 2 kilometers from the city centre. Built in 1734, it was designed to give shelter to the inhabitants of the city of Jaipur in the event of an invasion.
Jaigarh (5 kilometers)
Jaigarh houses several temples, gardens, royal baths and a theatre for puppet shows. There are military installations too which include a huge armoury and an enormous cannon on wheels called the Jai Van – said to be the largest cannon in the world.
Amer Fort (12 kilometers)
Amber, the old capital of the Kachhawas, is a fascinating mix of Hindu and Muslim architecture. It is a fortified complex of splendid palaces, gardens and water bodies that has evolved over a period of about six centuries under as many as twenty-eight rulers.
